4 Weeks
19 May 2010
Two days ago I felt a little weird and thought (and hoped) I might be pregnant. I had stomach cramps in the left side of tummy and as so close to my period (4 days to go..) I just assumed they were the usual period symptoms.
Just in case, I bought a couple of pregnancy test on the way to work and they advise you do it first thing in the morning. So, when I got to work I did one.... the bloody thing didn't work properly (the 'working' window was invalid) but it did still have a 'cross' in the window saying I was preggers. I decided just to wait until I got home to do the next one, just to be sure and before I got my hopes up!
I did the other test when I got home about 7pm. It worked and it was POSITIVE!!!!
How do I tell the hubby.... this was so exciting as we were ready (kind of) for a baby but I guess neither of us were expecting it to happen so quickly! So, Dan came in from work and we did the usual catch up on work things, get into comfy clothes, start making dinner, whilst inside I was bursting to tell him! After we finished the usual chit chat and we were busy getting dinner ready, I said, 'oh, I have some news... I'm pregnant!' Dan being Dan didn't believe me and wanted to see the positive test before he showed any sign of excitement, there he was, looking at the test, looking at the result instructions, back to looking at the test then back to the instructions... Then he finally said, 'OMG we're going to have a baby!!!!'
From my iphone calculations (which I used to track my period) I worked out that I was only 4 weeks pregnant so we decided to keep it to ourselves for the time being, to be safe. Oh god....
I can't believe how lucky we are to fall pregnant so quickly. It takes some couples months to conceive and it just happened for us. One trick that I now swear by are ovulation sticks. I bought these after reading that they were key to tell you the best time to conceive. I did 2 tests that month and bingo, I fell pregnant! Definitely a good buy, although I have 18 now spare.....
Now we have the next 8 weeks to keep it a secret and try and let the fact we are having a baby all sink in! I am the happiest person alive!
